It's Been Awhile

It's been too long since I blogged... But life has been so crazy busy I guess something had to be pushed aside.  I had just gotten started with this and it seems life flipped upside down.  Not in a bad way, but just in a busy way.

I am amazed how thru it all I have still been able to stay somewhat on track. I'll be the first to admit that even I am surprised I haven't given up or fallen back into old habits.  I will say its because I truly love the way I am living each day! I love the way I eat and I love the way I exercise... That is a huge blessing!

I started off the year with a resolution to try and cut out refined sugars... So far so good! There are a couple things I haven't been able to change over yet, but each little thing I do is a good thing.  It's all about baby steps! I will admit I couldn't resist the mini candy bars they had at our desks in abundance in Ohio for the meeting.... Oh well!

What prompted me to blog again was my findings on Facebook yesterday... It was a simple article/video, but it has made a HUGE impact on me! My focus has been on what I put IN my body, and I never took into consideration what I put ON my body... Did you know it takes 26 seconds for a chemical to be absorbed into your blood stream? YIKES! Hair spray, shampoo, face cleaner, MAKE-UP, etc. etc.  I found a website (app too) called Skin Deep... They do all kinds of research and even have ranked the products we use on a scale of 1-10 for safety.

Some products are obviously more dangerous than others, but here are 5 Problem Products
1. Hair Straighters
2. Dark Permanent Hair Dye
3. Skin Loghhteners
4 Loose Powders
5. Antibacterial Soap
All of these linked to serious disorders... Cancer, hair loss, skin irritation and damage, lung irritation and are unnecessary plus potentially toxic!

Top Ingredients to avoid
1. Fragrance, Vitamin A (retinyl palmitate, retinol, retinyl acetate) for skin and lips.
2. Triclosan for your teeth
3. Formaldehyde, formalin, Toluene and Dibutyl phthalate for your nails

Other cosmetic chemicals to avoid
1. Parabens
2. Formaldehyde based preservatives
3. Polyethylene glycol

These are just some....

So what did I do? Went to my bathroom and started scanning all my products.... OMG! These things were in all my stuff!

I made a decision.... To change... I immediately purchased new concealer and face cleansing cloths (since I use these the most)  and I will continue to change out all my bad products one at a time. Is it more expensive? Yes... But the price our bodies pay is even greater!
